Hi,
I am trying to get back into using PD Space Guitar. I have a few questions:

Is there a general "flow" diagram, or does the flow of the audio signal follow the tabs:
Shaper -> Amp -> Fx -> Space?

Also, what if I don't want the amp? I just want the "shaper", is there a way to do that?
Or.... perhaps - what is the cleanest amp settings to avoid added distortion.

Also.... is there a tutorial video on the shaper? Lot's of functionality, and I am not quite certain what all of it does. E.g. there's a sawtooth wave and square wave, can I just one of those, or both of those? I see the manual web pages on the forum explain each tab or item, in some cases it's not clear. Maybe I am not as knowledgeable about some of the functions.

One of first goals - is to turn my violin in a 80s synth sound.

Example: I'm looking and it seems many presets have the amp gain way up, and the overdrive way up..... IF....I'm after the sawtooth wave, why do you need the amp up so much?

Thanks!

Hi AJ,
First: I know that there should be a deep tutorial vid. but alas, I am just a 1 person company, and I havent managed to make such vid yet. The preset vids I make are easy to make in between my guitar students, a bigger tutorial howevever takes days to make, days I havent got available right now.

>Is there a general "flow" diagram, or does the flow of the audio signal follow the tabs:

that is the default order yes, the order of amp and fx can however be altered in the SETUP tab, so you can put the delay in front the amp etc.

>Also, what if I don't want the amp? I just want the "shaper", is there a way to do that?
The header titles are also the power buttons, so if you go to the AMP tab, click on the AMP header there, that will disable the amp section.
Those power title knobs are everywhere in the app. When I've got the time I'll add a LED in the title to make it more obvious.

Saw and Square are just patterns of added harmonics: the saw harmonic series 1,2,3,4,5...32 times the fundamental. The square harmonics only uses odd harmonics, Bright adds one even harmonics.
Mixing the patterns is not that effective, I deliberately left it out. e.g. You'd want an independent layer of square vs. an independent dynamic layer of saw. This is much better done by just starting 2 SG instances!

Example: I'm looking and it seems many presets have the amp gain way up, and the overdrive way up..... IF....I'm after the sawtooth wave, why do you need the amp up so much?

Many presets suit the guitarist's wish for lots of sustain: you will not need that as a violinist!
Like stated above, you can turn the amp off.
If you set the bass to the left, middle to the max, treble to the max, zero overdrive, zero squeel you have a linear amp with a limiter that is ruled by the gain knob.

For your current interest in 80's synth sound you can use preset 12 as a starting point.  Just disable the amp to test how much compression you need, and use the amp as a neutral limiter when needed.
Don't forget that the graphic EQ in SPACE is a mighty tool for colouring the sound.

I hope to someday soon have the time to make a more in depth tutorial, but until then you can ask me anything here ofcourse

Paul,
First - Thank you for such a quick response.I do understand the goal with a one guy shop is to add more functional value for the users. Perhaps many of the users are more knowledgeable with synths than I am.

I will play around with the preset you suggested and see what I can get.

Thank you again for great software!!
